"LIFE AFTER OIL"
a one-day mini-conference
Sat. Sept. 25, 2010
|
8am to 5pm
Westchester area of Los Angeles
|
| |
What could life in Los Angeles possibly be like in the era beyond oil? More importantly, how do we help that vision blossom into reality?
The Transition movement is a worldwide grassroots movement of local groups like ours which are helping their local communities to prepare for peak oil, climate change, and economic contraction, combined. In this one-day mini-conference, you'll gain an in-depth understanding of the Transition movement, and in particular, how you can participate as we implement these ideas here in Los Angeles.
While the Transition movement came into being in order to address some pretty grim realities about the current course of society, the movement itself is filled with hope and creativity. The focus is on bringing a better world into being, starting with our own local communities.
Transition initiatives worldwide focus on creating a low carbon, powerdown, more resilient, socially just future. Transition groups do such things as raising citizen awareness of the need to act, hosting reskilling classes to learn the ways of the new future, creating physical projects which grow local resilience, networking with other local organizations who are doing similar work, and setting up working groups to envision and plan how we will get to that better future from where we are now.
Come join us!

The "Life After Oil" mini-conference will include:
- an in-depth examination of The Problems: peak oil, climate change, economic contraction, and their combined effect.
- the Transition movement - what it is; its history in the UK, the US, and LA; how the Transition approach works; how you can help enrich an existing Transition group in your neighborhood, or how get a Transition group started in your local neighborhood
- inner Transition - the change in conscousness we all go through as we embrace the realities of this Transition era
- establishing connections with other solutions-minded individuals from throughout Southern California
- action - live working sessions to begin planning with people in your local geography
The "Life After Oil" mini-conference will include plenty of experiential sessions as well as lecture/information sessions. You will participate in exercises you can then turn around and use within your local neighborhood group. |
| |
The "Life After Oil" mini-conference will be presented / facilitated by members of the Transition Los Angeles city hub, including Vidya Chaitanya (Transition Mar Vista), Joanne Poyourow (Environmental Change-Makers, Westchester), Peter Rood,
John Tikotsky (West LA), Dan Wang (Transition South Bay LA), Michelle Weiner (Transition Culver City), Bruce Woodside (Transition San Fernando Valley), and more. |
| |
We welcome people who are new to the ideas of Transition, people who wish to lead Transition initiatives in their local neighborhood, people who have had some contact with their local Transition group but want to get to know a lot more about it, people who are involved with other solutions-oriented groups in the area who would like to get to know about Transition ... people like you! |
